Custom-made Kitchen Units

My free standing and fitted kitchen cabinets, are renowned for their durability and timeless appeal. Carcasses are built from solid timber throughout, which means they won't begin to fall apart like their chipboard counterparts.

Cabinets are constructed to include in frame doors and drawers, using traditional workshop methods and techniques, which include mortice / tenon ,and dovetailed joints. Modern innovations are also included as and when required, such as soft close drawers, sliding shelf combinations, and waste/recycling systems.

Handles, hinges, sinks, taps and the various appliances are also given consideration, but with such a wide choice available online these days, customers do tend increasingly to source their own, making specific choices, and saving money as well.

Down the years, the variation in kitchen styles has been wide, from what could be described as “distressed rustic” to sleek and contemporary. However the two most popular have been:

Painted Kitchens
All of the cabinets are made from redwood or tulipwood, and are usually handpainted in colours chosen from the extensive Farrow and Ball range, in a hard wearing eggshell which is a very effective way of achieving a fresh, soothing or striking look for your kitchen.

Oak Kitchens.
I generally use American White Oak, as customers like its natural light tones, and when finished in Danish oil, nothing quite compares to the warmth and beauty it brings to the home.

Whilst hopefully providing a visually appealing environment, the kitchens I build must also serve the practical demands of modern life. During the planning and design process, a good deal of thought is given over to the storage and presentation of various features, and the ease and convenience of use. Food, ingredients, plates, mugs, pots, pans, glassware, trays, chopping boards, waste bins all have their essential space.
